Welcome to the home of Verbal Gardening; the world's first neologistic allotment.

In January 2006 I began my endeavour to get a brand new word in the dictionary. With the help of ten Rare Men, I invented potential words, sowed them across the country and have since been cultivating them with as much vigour as I could muster in a bid to get them accepted into the language.

After 1000 days we rested. We'd done all we could for the moment. Meanwhile I wrote up the story and turned the nice people at Virgin turned it into a book:

If you want to read the story so far, why not buy the book. It's a lovely weight and well worth spending a small amount of honk on. You can get it here or in bookshops or, if you've got my number, give me a call and we'll sort something out.

Meanwhile, our quest to break into the dictionary continues. We're still pushing our various words and encouraging others to do the same. This is a story that has no end (which would usually be quite frustrating but is, I think, a good thing in this instance).

I'm taking a show about the project (also called Wordwatching) on tour early in 2010 and will be updating this website whenever possible with my progress, our words' progress and any other wordy business. So get in touch if you spot any of our words in use, if you want your own words spread or if you just want to say hello.

There we go. Click here if you fancy wandering round our verbal garden a little longer.
